Personally, I disagree with the statement that asking for homework should be prohibited in educational institutions. This essay will discuss this perspective and provide relevant examples to support my opinion.
Some people argue that giving assignments to students can create an extra burden, as it might be time-consuming for them, even outside school hours. As a result, they might not be able to engage in other recreational activities such as watching TV, visiting different places, or following hobbies. For example, in 2010, Kathmandu Boarding School in Lalitpur conducted an experiment with Grade 5 students by assigning them significantly more homework compared to other classes. This resulted in students feeling exhausted and bored, avoiding social interactions and communication.
However, I believe that providing assignments to pupils encourages self-directed learning beyond the classroom. For example, the famous Nepali novelist Buddhi Prashad stated that his writing skills significantly improved due to frequent writing tasks assigned during his school years. Additionally, doing homework creates opportunities to reinforce learning, as students often receive feedback from their teachers. To exemplify, students who tend to submit their assignments regularly are more likely to achieve higher grades in class.
In conclusion, even though homework may have certain disadvantages, it plays an essential role in enhancing children’s academic performance. Thus, relevant authorities should introduce a policy that ensures a balanced workload so students can engage in both academic and non-academic activities.
