I am against online dating for a few reasons. While technological advancements have made these apps popular, I believe that they discourage authentic human connections and replace them with relationships that are fake and have serious safety risks.
Firstly, in my opinion, online dating apps sometimes cause trouble due to inauthentic relationships. They typically just have two people match based on their profile’s interests and hobbies. This might be easier than trying to find someone that matches your interests and failing in real life, however that is part of connecting with people and getting to know them better. Talking online with someone is also enjoyable, but on the other hand when people rely entirely on screen, they forget how to communicate authentically in real life. We can also feel their body language and read emotions based on their actual faces because in person it is so much easier to do that than through texting where you cannot read the tones. These factors negatively influence how genuine the bond is between them.
Secondly, safety is a huge issue due to not knowing the other person’s identity entirely. If you are connecting with real people, you get to know them better and easily see if they are faking a comment. For example, if you do not know the other person’s identity, they could be someone you were not expecting, and you never know who is actually behind the screen. In addition to personal safety, privacy is also a major concern because everything happens inside a dating app. These apps have the power to track your location, messages, and private data, and users never know what the companies are doing with this information. Even if it says they will use them for improving the app for the future, it is still out of control and we cannot do anything about it once we hand them in.
In conclusion, online dating apps have many dangerous factors such as fake relationships and very weak safety that contribute to your mental health and social connections as a human.
