There is a common belief that governments should be responsible for all scientific research rather than private companies. While many people support that claim, I believe that private businesses should be given chances to participate in numerous experiments, and this essay will explain why.
On the one hand, with the help from private companies, the governments can reduce the amount of work and money. This is because shareholders of companies invest a big sum of money on scientific research that has the ability to make profits, or the ones that help the society. It can be seen that most governments cannot afford most research and there is a lack of ingredients used in those researches so they need investments from companies who are interested in that project. Moreover, many businesses nowadays are responsible for most of the experiments and achieve success. For example, during the Covid-19 pandemic, Pfizer – a private pharmaceutical company – successfully invented the vaccine against the dangerous virus and sold it all over the world with a reasonable price and saved billions of humans at that time.
On the other hand, opponents of this idea may assert that private corporations only care about profits, and social needs are not of any concern when they develop their programmes. Although this might be true to some extent, I oppose this line of reasoning as every development is important and all of them benefit the world. Researchers look for new things that not only profit the companies but also help the community.
In conclusion, I agree that scientific research should be conducted by both the governments and private corporations in order to improve humans’ lives.
