There is research evidence that digital tools such as smartphones can increase creative output among youth. I agree with this point of view as it takes into account the way in which the process of developing new things has changed in recent times.
Online platforms provide a means for young people to connect with other creators and share ideas, leading to a proliferation of various kinds of art forms and expressions. For example, content creation as a hobby has grown in popularity thanks to the different social media spaces where people share their output such as Instagram and Youtube. With digital tools, anyone no matter their age can access these spaces with ease. Although it can be argued having unfettered access to the internet through smartphones breeds addiction, it cannot be denied that it allows for creative expression.
Furthermore, the way human beings interact even with the environment has become more digital, and the widespread use of handheld devices and portable computers reflects this. There is more of a demand to have the ability to complete tasks on the go, which is fulfilled by such gadgets. As a result, a creative person is no longer restricted as to where the process of design and production can take place. The studio or workshop now resides in the hands of the owner of the gadget, such that inspiration can be acted upon as it comes.
In conclusion, my opinion is that handheld devices are useful for encouraging creative expression on-the-go, especially with the young, as they are easily accessible and easy to use. Although there are some concerns, such as addiction to screens, the benefits cannot be ignored.
