There is ongoing debate about whether economic growth and environmental protection can be achieved simultaneously. While some people believe this two goals are compatible, others argue economic progress comes at the expense of the environment. I firmly believe that it is extremely difficult to achieve both, as industrial development often causes significant damage to nature.
On the one hand, economic progress and environmental sustainability can coexist through the development of modern technologies and eco-friendly industries. For example, governments can invest in renewable energy, generating electricity without large amounts of emissions. Furthermore, manufacturing electric vehicles can reduce the dependence on fossil fuels and help to decrease air pollution. Additionally, recycling is another way to preserve the environment, as it provides reusable materials rather than extracting them from nature. As a result, countries can continue developing their economy, while reducing their negative impact on environment.
On the other hand, economic development requires large-scale industrial projects, which leads to serious damage of the environment. Factories release harmful gases into the atmosphere, contributing to air pollution and global warming. Similarly, industrial waste and chemicals can contaminate lakes, rivers and other water sources, threatening both wildlife and human health. Moreover, governments frequently destroy forests to construct new roads, building and industrial facilities. This leads to the loss of natural habitats and a decline in biodiversity. Therefore, when countries want to expand, they put more pressure on the environment.
In my opinion, economic progress and environmental sustainability are extremely difficult to achieve simultaneously. Although green technologies can help to grow with reduced negative impact, this may not help when it comes to large scale improvements in the economy. Many developing countries prioritize their economic growth over environmental protection, making it challenging to maintain balance between this two objectives.
In conclusion, although renewable energy, electric vehicles and recycling can slow down negative impact on the environment, it is still hard to save the nature when it comes to large scale economic development.
