It is debated by some people that studying abroad firmly helps learners succeed in life, while others take that as a negative effect that hinders the betterment process. This essay attempts to shed light on how studying abroad opens up learning opportunities while digging into how the difference in their language use prevents them from improving their talents, also why I believe the challenge they get is worth it by widening students’ chances to become successful.
On the negative side, the language differences found in society make it hard for students to improve. It affects difficulty in understanding the subjects and expressing themselves. Imagine a student with a special ability in writing, but becomes stressed out to explain their thoughts by not deeply understanding the language used in their academic lives. It will cause self-doubt about what they can do and give up.
However, going places to study also helps learners to expand their studies that are not available in their motherland. Since Indonesia is a country with a low air speed and it prevents such students from learning, takes as an example, an Indonesian undergraduate studying air energy at the Netherlands university because of its windmill use, needing a high wind speed. Thus, their chances to succeed in life are supported.
Although there are downsides like learners might face boundaries caused by their innate language, I believe the upside of taking steps out of their comfort zone is more valuable by enhancing their qualities, especially academic skills.
In conclusion, while it is hard to learn using a language that one does not use daily, I firmly opine that studying abroad brings a way to success by providing more resources. As a suggestion, language issues can be solved by self-taught with many available online resources.
