Band 5+: Some believe that watching the news on TV and reading newspapers is a waste of time because the news has no relevance to people's lives. To what extent do you agree or disagree?

Note: Both the topic and the essay were created by one of our users.

There are countless tunnels that people can get information ,especially news and newspaper. Recently , there has been a debate about whether news and newspapers that deserve people to watch or read. While some argue that news and newspapers are not worth to get information , I believe that news and newspapers are still important.

Admittedly , some people support that watching news and reading newspapers are not important to humans for two reasons : negative news and same contents. From the perspective of negative news , in modern society , there are considerable negative news in news and newspapers , such as robbery, traffic jams and any accident , and so on. Those news are not relevant to people’s lives , hence , it makes people think that news and newspapers are not deserved to watch or read. Secondly, due to lacking news resources , it makes some news keep showing. From my experience, in Taiwan , people can see the news with same content for over ten times in a day. Therefore , it definitely reduces the number of people who are willing to watch news or read newspapers.

In spite of thse arguments , I believe with conviction that news and newspapers are deserved to watch or read for two reasons : gaining knowledge and rising social awareness. For one thing , news and newspapers sometimes will provide some fun facts or story , it can let people gain new knowledge. For instance , when I was a kid , I learned lots of historical stories from news and newspapers . And those knowledge were very instrumental to me that can raise my academic performances. Second, the main reason why people know that they have to do something to reduce pollution or relieve global warming is beacuse because news and newspapers. If we stop from watching news or reading newspapers , we will ignore some important information , and it may can make us extinct. Hence, it is necessary for people to watch news or read newspapers.

In conclusion , although news and newspapers often report negative news or some content , it may reduce people’s willings to watch or read them. News and newspapers still play important roles in society , they not only can gain people ‘s knowledge , but aslo can enhance people’s social awarenesses. Accordingly , the advantages of news and newspapers outweigh the disadvantages. We should definitely preserve news and newspapers.
