People receive news through numerous channels daily. While some believe that it is significant to watch and read the news, many are of the belief that it is just a waste of time and will not add any values to their lives. This essay will address why it is crucial to watch and read the news, and its relationship to people’s lives.
On the one hand, it is undeniable that watching news on TV or reading newspapers can foster awareness of the world around us. Reading about global events, such as economic or political trends can influence one’s decisions about investment, travel, and settlement. For instance, during the pandemic in 2020, various TV channels reported and followed up with the matter. They shared vital instructions to follow for our safety. If we had had not watched the TV news and respected the instructions, we would have been kept in the dark, which could have resulted in severe consequences. Hence, thanks to the TV news, we survived the pandemic.
Furthermore, it is significant for people to be in touch with their local news, such as the weather forecast, economic development, and social events. For example, I was planning a trip to Tangier, one of the marvellous cities in Morocco, but I saw on the news that the weather was unstable and could likely result in railway accidents. Thanks to this information, I saved myself from a potential accident.
On the other hand, some argue that what the news on TV or newspapers is a waste of time for many reasons. Firstly, although there are journalists who report ongoing events, the news is not always accurate and can be easily manipulated to get one’s attention. Secondly, it does not cover social or economic issues but only demonstrate unnecessary information about unimportant events, only to get a certain number of views. Lastly, the news’s primary focus is gossip and rumors about celebrities. Some TV channels spend millions of dollars to spy on superstars and report their daily lives, which will not add value to one’s life.
Overall, it is unquestionable that TV news and newspapers play a vital role in our lives. We need to be up to date on what is happening, locally and worldwide. However, believing what we read or see is up to the person and we have various resources that can help us detect if the information is accurate or not.
