Rapid technological development is inevitable nowadays. As the new technology deploys and gives more pleasures, it makes people spending more and more time on screen, specifically on smartphones. The screen time, the amount of time that people spend on their device, particularly on children has become a concern in the society. This essay argues that this acute addiction to smartphone on children may negatively impact their development. Furthermore, this essay will explain the reasons why this addictive behaviour is precarious to children.
Firstly, despite of its benefits, technology may significantly affect children’s physical health. For example, as children spend at least 6 hours daily on their smartphone, the long-term effects on their eyes will be more obvious over time. The current research mentions that in the 21st century, the risk of myopia on children is increasing due to long screen time. This finding reflects on how precarious technology to children’s health.
Secondly, I concern about activities children usually do on the screen that may damage their psychological health and development. For instance, watching unsuitable videos for their age. It is common practice on children without parent’s supervision that they often watch videos about violence or other sensitive contents, which obviously do not suitable for them. This situation harms their psychological health, which later affects the essential mental development throughout their life. As a result, the negative behaviour will be formed as they grow into adolescent hood.
In conclusion, the new technology gives pleasures and makes people, particularly children, spend more time on screen. This is obvious that the situation results a negative impact on children physical health and psychological health.
