Certain work places insist their staff on following a dress code. Although there are several merits to this, the demerits cannot be ignored.
There are numerous benefits of wearing a uniform at work. Easy identification is a major advantage that it serves. In other words, uniforms are useful in situations where the personnel in an organization needs to be uniquely identified among a group of people. In hospitals, for instance, it is essential for employees to follow the dress code which helps them get recognized among the patients and the visitors. Another benefit is the promotion of an organization. When an employee goes out for work wearing their uniform with logos of their company, it indirectly promotes the brand of their organization.
Even though there are some advantages of following a dress code, several people feel otherwise. To begin with, some working professionals may not be interested in this concept, as they find it quite monotonous and boring. For example, my cousin who is working in an industry related to heavy machinery and equipment often complains about the attire, as she feels it is repetitive. This, in turn, affects the quality of one’s work as they don’t feel as motivated to be productive. Furthermore, the majority of employees feel that it leads to the loss of individuality, specifically the ability to express themselves through clothing. Since they are expected to wear the same outfit on a daily basis, it impedes their sense of independence.
In conclusion, taking into account the abovementioned points, it is evident that there is a difference between people’s perspectives about the benefits and drawbacks of wearing a uniform. While it may be a requirement for certain jobs, they should be designed on the basis of the suggestions made by employees.
