Some people argue that global warming is the most alarming environmental issue that we are currently facing, while others opine that deforestation has more concerning effects on our planet. I firmly believe that global warming is the most dangerous problem our environment is facing at the current moment.
On the one hand, some people believe that deforestation is the most important problem and cite some reasons. First, deforestation will result in a massive destruction of animal habitats, leading many animals to become endangered species and face the danger of total extinction. Furthermore, trees are known to be the main producer of oxygen and the main absorber of CO2, which means that cutting trees massively will increase greenhouse gas emission and therefore have a severe and detrimental effects on the environment. For example, the Brazilian government has launched several projects which consist on building new roads and railways all across the amazonian forest, which will threaten multiple animals’ habitats according to many experts. Consequently, this shows that deforestation can be considered as the main danger that environment is facing.
On the other hand, I personally believe that global warming is much more concerning as it has a broader impact on earth, while deforestation has more of limited and local effects. Global warming has caused a significant rise in sea levels and enhanced the melting of glaciers in the northern side of the planet over the past decades, which made some areas face the risk of disapearing such as islands in the maldives and some regions in the pacific ocean. Moreover, global warming has aggravated the situation regarding the ozone layer, which resulted in extreme heatwaves that caused death among all species including humans, animals, and plants. Examples can be seen in this years summer where more than 200 persons died in France and Spain due to extremely high temperatures. Thus, global warming can be considered the main issue that humans need to address due to its large scale and long-term detrimental effects.
To sum up, some people argue that we should be more concerned about deforstation owing to the effects it has on wildlife and forests’ safety, while others believe that global warming is more concerning due to its large and long-term negative effects. I strongly believe that global warming is a much more concerning phenomenon that we should adress and find effective ways to tackle.
