Few people in the education sector believe that international student exchange programs can be beneficial for students. I have mixed views on this statement, as such experiences can enrich the education experience of students, but at the same time it can have a negative impact on students.
International exhange visits can be advantageous for students in a number of ways. Firstly, students travelling to other countries can observe how people live there through which they can broaden their perspective, and can come up with good ideas. Secondly, students can get international exposure by talking to foreigners. This exposure can really help them in future, if they are planning further studies out of their home country. Thirdly, the teenagers can learn about the culture and language of the foreign country, which can eventually help them in expanding their general knowledge. Lastly, the experience that students have gathered abroad can help them to think of an innovative idea and implement it in their home country.
However, at the same time students can have a daunting experience as well, primarily because of racism and protests among many other problems going on in a lot of countries, especially western. Students can face racism in other countries, they can face remarks from foreign students that can haunt them for life. Furthermore, they can easily be influenced in a foreign country as the laws in the other country might be different, what may be a law in their home country might not be a law in the away country.
In conclusion, while there are a lot of benefits for students in exchange visits, there are some downsides as well. But overall, it can be a fulfilling experience if everything goes right.
