Answer: There is no doubt that language is the most predominant thing that makes us different from other creatures. Nowadays, it can be seen that specialists have started to reckon that learning foreign languages is appropriate for children at their elementary level as compared to high school for several reasons. I completely agree with this phenomenon as learning a second language at the primary level has more benefits than acquiring it at the secondary level.
Admittedly, there are some negative outcomes of learning foreign languages at the secondary level. The most obvious one is that when children start learning a second language during their high school period may feel shy, therefore, they cannot acquire it. For example, last year research was published by BEMS( Bangladesh Educational Management System) in which they mentioned that children who learn a second language at their secondary level may have a fear of mistakes, consequently, they feel too shy to learn it in front of their peers. Furthermore, students who study in high school have a rigorous academic curriculum with various subjects. For this reason, they do not have enough time to pursue a new language at this stage cause if they focus more on seeking a new language, they may feel pressure or stress which can be the cause of their poor academic performance.
Despite the disadvantages above, learning a second language at the elementary level has more rewards. The most striking one is that it enhances the brain development of the children. Research has been shown that children who learn a second language at their basic level may do well in their academic subjects, especially scientific subjects. For example, recently research has been published by the Bangladesh Primary Education Board, where they mentioned that children who acquire a second language at their primary level get a higher band in their examination. Besides, learning foreign languages helps them to learn other cultures as well. As a result, they become more open-minded; they can think out of the box which can assist them to think differently and make something new; and they become more aware of world affairs.
