Some individuals believe that in the next 20 years, roads should be exclusive to electric cars, which means petrol-driven transportation will be eliminated. In my view, I somewhat disagree with this assertion followed by several reasons.
Proponents of this development argue that a nation can gain environmental benefits from electrical cars. Without relying on fuel, this type of vehicle operates entirely on electricity, resulting in no carbon dioxide emissions. Thus, dramatic air pollution is partly alleviated. This is exemplified by the case of Norway which extensively employs electric cars and showcases a decrease in air pollution. Furthermore, citizens’ health also witnesses a considerable improvement. Since the quality of air is enhanced by the lower use of petrol cars, residents’ respiratory systems will be less likely to encounter diseases such as lung cancer and asthma.
Nevertheless, getting rid of other transportation to popularise electric cars may bring several drawbacks. The promotion of electric cars is completely impractical and infeasible in various nations. Developing countries, particularly Vietnam, are those with low GDP, in other words, the residents’ earnings are moderately low. Consequently, purchasing an electrical car is absolutely out of the means. Observing the case of many Vietnamese families, with an average salary, they struggle to cover their living costs and thousands of fees. Therefore, owning an electric car is impossible for them. Secondly, the entire modification in transport policies may result in residents’ objections. Since the citizens cannot afford an electric car and have no other types of vehicles, they are not able to travel to work. As a result, prohibiting people from using vehicles other than electric cars definitely sparks public dissatisfaction leading to strikes or meetings, which takes large efforts of the authority to deal.
In conclusion, electric cars can help diminish air pollution and enhance citizens’ health. I am not convinced they do not offer any drawbacks due to the impracticable application and discontent among residents.
