Currently the authorities strive to track their citizens’ mobile devices by listening to or reading their messages, telephone conversations and electronic mails, saying that it reduces criminal activity. However, others object to it because it undermines people’s rights. This essay will analyze both views, giving a reasoned perspective to the situations.
Considering the former opinion, one of the prime reasons why government should monitor humans communication devices is because it prevents crimes. By tracking some suspicious texts and seeing weird activities, it allows them to identify many violences before they appear in real life by acknowledging locations, key words and even hidden meanings. Furthermore, it also helps to lower cruel situations and solve many problems in the future by getting enough evidences. For example, in inaccurate and questionable circumstances, such as considering the type of punishment, some extra proof would play a crucial role.
On the other hand, some disagree with these principles because it violates one’s privacy by taking away their freedom. Many people are uncomfortable with an idea of being recorded on a regular basis without their consent. Moreover, it on the contrary increases the risks of hazards. The number of cases where users’ devices are being hacked is significantly rising because scammers can find too personal information or data about the credit cards and passwords, which can be used with evil intentions. For instance, many innocent individuals are becoming victims of hackers and illegal call centers, where they end up paying someone’s bills.
To sum up, although, some argue that monitoring breaks people’s rights on their boundaries and increases crimes, I personally believe that it is crucial for the safety of humans because it prevents violences and provides evidences that resolve issues.
