Some people believe that practical and life survival classes should be the main subjects at school, and students should pay more attention to these skills. However, another group of people agree that academic and science subjects are the most significant part of school education.
From my point of view, I strongly believe that academic skills have to be the main focus in schools. The reason why we are going to school is to gain knowledge there. School is a unique place where you can easily find information, while outdoors you don’t always have a chance to learn about history, maths or science. There have always been academic skills in schools, and we will be using them in the future. Also, if you’re going to college or university, academic skills are necessary for your portfolio.
For instance, in Kazakhstan we have a national exam for applying to universities, and you can choose which subjects you will take in the exam. All of these subjects are academic. Maths, biology, chemistry, history and so on – all of them are mostly theoretical.
Furthermore, I might say as well that practical skills aren’t as important as academic ones. They are kind of less necessary at school because it isn’t the school’s duty to teach everything about real life. You have to learn some of these things in real life, with your parents, siblings or friends. For example, you can easily find tutorials about how to survive in different situations on social media. So, I disagree with the idea that practical skills should be the main subjects.
To conclude, people have different opinions, and they can simply choose what kind of subjects are important for them.
