The question about community service for teenagers has attracted considerable attention. To some people, community service should be mandatory for young people while other believe that it contravene their’s rights and freedom. I firmly believe that community service is a relic of the past and should not be mandatory. In this essay, I will discuss both views and justify my opinion.
Firstly, in the modern world community service should be a volunteering event because now we have thousand of people who take care of the cities and people – and they earn money for that. Kind action has a value only when it came from the heart, not from the responsibility. It would be greater for a teenager to decide to help in retierment houses by himself than do it because he has to. For example, between child who helps children from poor families because he wants to and child who do the same but because he has to, the first one are doing better thing.
On the other hand, mandatory community services had and still has a good impact on society and teenagers including. USSR had been using pioneering as association and career leader. Furthermore, it was used as a social rank and was a serious and responsible step in childern and teenager’s lives. Children helped teachers, elderly and other children, they cleaned parks and worked and to some people it really had benefits.
To conclude, I am of the view that every teenager should chose what to do in their free time by themselves but the government still have to support volunteering and helping others in order to make it a natural thing.
