Band 5+: Some of the methods used in advertising are unethical and unacceptable in today's society

Note: Both the topic and the essay were created by one of our users.

It is often argued that most advertising ways are considered as unacceptable and unethical in nowadays society. Although I agree that a lot of the ones used are not comfortable for everyone, I think there are still other possible ways that can satisfy them.

On one hand, certain advertising approaches annoy and disappoint customers. Humans are easily manipulated and tricked by persuasive words and colorful visuals without knowing what it actually offers in reality. For example, McDonald’s advertises their big mac by visualising it as a full juicy meal in their pictures, but it comes out as a small flat burger. Another one is Dior promoting their bags with famous people in it which is a common thing to do in the world of fashion, making everyone believe that it should be worth millions, while in reality it only takes standard and cheap materials to produce the bags. That is why these kinds of advertising are harmful as it is seen as a scam and an unfair way to trick the society into spending their money.

On the other hand, there are other ways of promotion that are trusted by viewers. A business could advertise itself through various social media influencers to review its products. For example, G2G, a skincare brand, uses many influencers to apply the products and give their opinion of it through a video to be spread all over Instagram and TikTok. This way, it increases curiosity among the audiences to try and fulfill their expectations. Thus, convincing more buyers.

In conclusion, some advertising approaches are misleading, but there are still other ones that are more ethical and acceptable for everyone.
