Parents always aim to provide a comfortable life for their family. With this in mind, most parents tend to think that if they are financially equipt by, they will be able to support their basic and recreatonal needs. In this essay, I will look into the advantages and disadvantages of parents engaging in stressful jobs requiring them to work for long hours in order to provide for a good life for their children.
The society perceive good parenting as being able to provide a comfortable life to the children. If the parents are in the workforce, then both will be able to contribute to the financial needs of the family. The children will be raised with a comfortable living environment, they are assured of food with sufficient nutrients, they can have good education, they can also finance recreational activities and can travel to various places, hence contributing to a good life.
However, despite the good sides of having parents in the workforce, there are repercussions. A lot of parents complain that due to the the demands of their work, they do not have enough time to bond with their children or assist them with school works. The children of working parents also experince detachment from them, and turn to their peers or other people when they need company. This usually creates rift between the parents and the children. Some of the teenagers who are involved in societal conflicts are the ones with absent parents. The lack of time in attending to the childrens formative needscan be a caused of this raising concerns.
As parents, it is their responsibilty to support the needs of their children. However, there should should always be a balace of providing the financial needs and thir psychological needs. The presence of the parents during the formative years of the children is necessary. The children themselves wants to spend more quality time with their parents than received tangible gifts. Parents should also spend quality time and provide meaningful experiences for their children.
