The dramatic increase in demand for a good life has pushed people to work extra hours, and in most cases, high-tension jobs. This essay will explore whether this trend has positive consequences for the family; however, I believe that the drawbacks outweigh the advantages.
Parents strive to create a prosperous life for their children from childhood, and to accomplish that, sometimes they need to work hard without preserving themselves, throwing tremendous effort into stressful work environments. The financial outcome from the job helps improve their and their children’s living conditions and exponentially increases demand for various needs. For instance, they can afford to send their children to the most popular colleges and universities, paving the way to a bright future for them. Top universities such as MIT and Princeton have versatile and highly effective methodologies for fostering and educating their students with state-of-the-art teaching technologies and academic staff.
Contrary to the financial stability and affluent life, there are detrimental effects that are introducing various problems in such families. Being completely involved in their time-consuming jobs, parents are losing the emotional connection and parental support for their children, and in some cases this is leading to irreparable outcomes. There is a huge number of researches showing a direct proportional effect: the longer parents are involved with their kids and spend more quality time with them, the more emotionally happy and psychologically healthy their children will be in their future.
To sum up, although parents’ hard and long working hours bring financial prosperity for their children, providing them with a brighter future, it also has side effects that sometimes can lead to mental health issues and undermine stability in families. Thus, parents need to create a delicate balance between working overtime and spending quality time with their children and family.
