It is considered by some individuals that sellers should provide less wrapped items while there are others who think it is up to consumers to choose which groceries they should take. Of course both sides should contribute, however, I think that this intention should come more from the sellers side as it mostly defines buying behavior.
On the one hand every conscious human being should be aware of the impact of buying the groceries with produced cover. But unpackaged products mean higher costs and obviously not everybody can afford to spend more money on it. Having a choice, people with low income would take the cheaper one, although they may understand the consequences. Another point is, people always suppose that their contribution is too small and doesn’t affect the overall situation.
On the other hand it is not that profitable for shops to turn to environmentally friendly or non packages. There are more concerns for business, transportation problems leading to more expenses. However, by giving people more options, sellers lead consumers to the “right” choice and get an appealing image, contributing to the environment at the same time. So many brands try to follow sustainability trends, for instance, over the last 5 years it has become usual that in every store you can find a textile shopper bag, which you can use many times.
In conclusion I can say that of course people are able to take responsibility for choosing to buy uncovered products, but it should be taken by sellers because they mostly navigate the crowd in their buying ability.
