The issue of who should take responsibility for people’s health and dietary habits has sparked considerable debate. While some individuals argue that each person must take care of their own health, others believe that governments should play a significant role in ensuring citizens follow a healthy diet. This essay will examine both perspectives before presenting my own viewpoint.
On one hand, it is reasonable to expect individuals to take responsibility for their own health. In today’s world, people have easy access to information about nutrition and fitness through books, websites, and healthcare professionals. With a wide range of food options available in supermarkets, individuals can make informed decisions and maintain a balanced diet if they are willing. Furthermore, relying entirely on the government for personal well-being may lead to complacency and a lack of self-discipline.
On the other hand, governments have a crucial role to play in shaping public health outcomes. Through legislation and policy-making, they can regulate food industries, limit harmful advertising (especially to children), and impose taxes on unhealthy products like sugary drinks or processed food. Moreover, in low-income areas, access to healthy food may be limited or unaffordable, making it necessary for governments to subsidize nutritious food options and support public health education
In conclusion, although individuals must make daily choices that affect their health, governments also have a responsibility to create an environment where healthy living is accessible and encouraged. In my opinion, the best results can be achieved when both parties work together — individuals act responsibly, and governments provide the necessary support.
