There are various arguments about shaping a person’s personality. One group of people consider that upbringing plays a key role in developing one’s temperament, while others believe that education has a stronger influence. In this essay, I will examine both perspectives and present my own viewpoint.
Firstly, it is evident that individual’s character largely comes from their parents. Children often inherit parents’ temperament. There is also no doubt about nurture of parents on character or individuality of the child. For instance, children usually observe their parents’ relationship and the reasons behind of family issues. They collect memories and tend to repeat similar behavior in the future, even if they don’t intend to. That’s why nowadays many psychologists help people to recover from suppressed memories. All these factors in one way or another have an impact on the development of an individual’s temperament in the future.
On the other hand, education also plays a crucial role in shaping one’s personality. By acquiring new knowledge, they change their mindset, develop essential abilities. For example, students often improve their communication skills to adapt to a new environment and caught up with teachers in order to have benefits in the future. This actively demonstrates that through education they grew up, become more independent, socialized and confident in forming a more mature personality.
To sum up, although education significantly influences a person’s development, I strongly believe that upbringing has a greater impact on shaping a person’s main character. However, both factors are essential in building a well-rounded individual.
