Language is essential to enhance the grasping capability of a child and to implement the same in terms of vocabulary and fluency. English Language has become the standard for communication in most developing countries. In most parts of the world, the first language a child learns is their mother tongue which varies greatly with respect to the region. Second comes the standard language that everyone utilises for communication all over the world, that is, English. As people’s views are evolving at a massive rate, they come to believe that it is important to develop the habit of divulging ourselves to explore and learn new languages. This essay will shed light on both views.
The education system is being modernised when compared to the past as it has come to give choice for their students in selecting their second and third language as per curriculum. These days, schools have introduced the concept of foreign languages like French, German, Japanese, etc so that the students have the liberty of choosing the language their interested in. Parents encourage their kids to take up international languages keeping in mind that it might be useful to them if in case they fly abroad when the opportunity strikes. Nowadays, translators are being paid in lump sum amount and the students might utilise this as a side hobby to earn more. Learning a country’s language not only enhances the student’s mind to enthral itself to grasp the Grammer but also gives the history of how the language came into existence along with its importance. Student’s make it an effort to involve themselves while learning as it is a crucial part exercise the brain as it is in the learning phase.
While there might be advantages of learning a new language, there will still be demerits of its own. Introducing a new language in the syllabus might be beneficial to the students but at the same time it becomes a burden as students must deal with making extra effort to learn something entirely new along with the core subjects. This might result in putting unnecessary stress on the young child’s mind while it is in the developing stage. Since, they are young, they will not know which language interests them the most and might just select it out of pure randomness. This may not be the scenario if the same set of students are given a choice in secondary school as they have developed some amount of maturity to make the smart and right choice for the near future. At this stage, they will also have some sense of responsibility to appreciate the historical achievements of the language they’ve chosen. This way of giving them choice at the mature age allows them to focus on core language that is important rather than stressing them up with exploring a completely new domain.
I would support that students must make a choice of learning foreign language at secondary school rather than having to learn them right from the beginning. The stress and depression cases all over the world consists majorly of students having to cope up with their studies. Hence, why must we burden a young and nurturing bud when it can bloom into the most captivating flower when provided with the right conditions to mature.
