There are different opinions about whether children should be given homework on a daily basis. The main reason for those who express their opinions about giving homework every day is the belief that they will be better students at school. Although keeping students busy with school work strengthens their material bond with the school, in my opinion it may weaken the intangible bond.
Homework is very useful in ensuring the repetition of subjects learned at school. In particular, children’s constant repetition will help them both understand the topics and prevent them from forgetting. Although efforts are made to prevent a system based on memorization, sometimes constantly presenting the subjects that form the basis of a lesson in front of the children will make it easier for them to understand it. In addition, doing homework regularly will also help students to maintain discipline, which is a qualification that will take them forward in the business life they will encounter when they grow up.
While all of these reasons strengthen the material bond between the school and the student, overloading the child can also be seen as demotivating. I strongly agree that free time has a positive impact on a person’s development. If the children are faced with an intense amount of homework on a daily basis, they will not have time for themselves, even for relaxing after a long school day.
For these reasons, in my opinion, rather than giving homework everyday, children should be given space to adjust their own study routines and should be encouraged to add important values to improve their self-discipline.
