Some individuals assume that children should spend their spare time with their families, while others believe that this is either unimportant or even negative. Both sides have their own benefits, but personally, I agree that children should not spend all their free time with family members.
One of the greatest advantages of spending spare time with family is a lower rate of criminal behavior among children. As the environment is filled with things that are not suitable for younger minds, children may confuse good activities with bad ones. However, if their communication is limited to their family, they are less likely to behave like criminals. For instance, children may meet a person who smokes or drinks alcohol, consequently considering him as their role model. One of the reasons for this acting is that young people do not enjoy following ground rules, but they are delighted trying unusual and forbidden activities. Therefore, spending leisure time with relatives may help children avoid perceiving certain things incorrectly.
Spending spare time communicating with other people apart from family members may also lead to positive effects, such as the development of communication skills. Unlike families, society is not limited to only several people, so children could get the opportunity to develop their communication skills through bonding with people who have different patterns of behavior. For example, if a boy does not have any sisters, he is not likely to get the chance to interact with girls of his age. Hence, children may advance their communication skills considerably by spending time with people apart from family members.
In conclusion, despite the benefits of both methods, I believe that spending time with people other than family is more beneficial as communication skills are more essential than a child’s behavior.
