Culture has become a subject of concern. Many people argue that the tourism industry would lead to the extinction of culture, while others think that the survival of culture completely depends on tourism. From my standpoint, there are several ways to protect culture apart from tourism, such as improving the awareness of population and implementing particular rules regarding the importance of cultural heritage, and it is not a threat to the existence of culture as government has a control over these affairs and vice versa tourism could serve to the favour of culture, making it more popular and accessible.
On the one hand, an array of measures could be taken to save culture. First and foremost, children should be educated in the spirit of respect to their culture. By this, there will be no need for other measures since the majority of youngsters are aware of the phenomenon. This can be achieved by changing the curriculum of the schools, adding new subjects, and producing new textbooks to learn. For instance, the 128 states out of 193 member-states of the UN have adoted this practice, and currently, culture has a place in their education system. In this era of technology, producing different kinds of materials is also a good idea to make people aware. Informative podcasts, films, and so forth can positively impact people as almost everyone, regardless of their age, use social media nowadays.
In addition, wise steps towards protecting culture can be taken by gavernment, too. The government has the authority to inject laws, for example, which restrict the usage of historical monuments and impose more responsibilities for culprits. By this, it will be possible to keep the relics of the past intact.
On the other hand, I do not believe that tourism takes a heavy toll on culture. On the contrary, tourism can make ways for further development and popularity. In other words, most tourists all around the world might be encouraged by the influx of people to country and come in person to see it, making it more popular. Also, this trend is beneficial from monetary aspects, too. To explain, hordes of tourists pouring to cultural destinations are accompanied by money, which eventually infest the budget of the country. Thus, tourism is a rather beneficial trend than we thought.
To conclude, in my opinion, a variety of ways exist to protect the culture except for tourism like education and law, and the culture will never be endangered by tourism, as it serves for cultural values by monetary and other aspects.
