In today’s world, the cost of education is a significant concern. Some people believe that the government should be responsible for covering the educational expenses of all students. On the other hand, others argue that learners should pay for their education themselves. Personally, I believe that the government can play a vital role in assisting students, especially those who find tuition fees unaffordable.
First and foremost, having the opportunity to study for free, even at highly-ranked universities, is a blessing for everyone. In such cases, students do not need to worry about financial burdens, allowing them to focus entirely on their studies. For instance, it will not be necessary for students to take full-time jobs to cover their tuition fees. Instead, they can take on campus jobs to cover everyday expenses, including rent. On the other hand, if a student’s financial obligations are fully covered by someone else, they may no longer feel the need to exert themselves, which can result in not working at all. This, in turn, often leads to an inability to save money for the future, causing financial issues such as an inability to afford a house or a car.
On the other hand, when students pay for their own education, it not only fosters independence but also boosts their confidence. They do not have to rely on others, allowing them to build resilience and self-sufficiency. For instance, through working, students can develop strong financial capability, enabling them to achieve their goals in a shorter period—such as affording major expenses like a spacious house or a brand-new car.
However, working full-time can be challenging for many students, as they must balance multiple responsibilities simultaneously, including studying, working, cooking, and managing tuition fees. Additionally, college and university tuition can be quite expensive. As a result, prioritizing financial gain may cause students to miss out on other aspects of life, such as spending time with friends, dining out, or enjoying leisure activities.
In conclusion, while government-funded tuition has both advantages and challenges, I firmly believe that its benefits outweigh the alternative of students funding their own education in many ways which the main one is improving confidence and feeling independent in many aspects of life.
