There is a conflict between people about whether governments should have access to people’s phone call records and messages to provide safety. In my opinion, there are some cases in which governments have to access to protect their public.
Safety is an important issue in a country. Every person around the world wants to live in safety, and governments take as many precautions as they can to provide this. This is not so easy, especially for crowded regions or countries. It is always more difficult to ensure order somewhere than to disrupt it. Establishing something requires more focus, whereas disrupting is arbitrary and easy. That is, installing a system requires more endeavor. However, most people don’t want to struggle for this so they want the government to deal with it. But, everyone knows that government cannot do anything without the permission of the individuals and this fact sometimes makes the situation too hard to solve. For example, if there is a case related to terrorism inside the country how the government will solve the communication between them? Will it ask them for permission? As you see, there are some cases like this in which the government has to reach the phone records without asking for permission.
Except for these cases, I support the privacy of individuals. Of course, I believe that governments should differentiate these particular cases from daily cases. Thankfully, they can provide security more effectively. Also in this way, individuals can live more freely and comfortably of course in safety.
