While a number of people may argue that building more roads can be of benefit to resolve traffic jam, I hold the opposing opinion and encourage people to use public transportation more to handle this issue.
On the one hand, a majority of people might believe that building more roads can help in the reduction of traffic. For instance, by taking the paths on the countryside into use, new routes will be available for drivers. Moreover, the traffic caused by the influx of cars that move throughout the city every morning, could be channeled to tunnels and highways which are located outside the local areas rather than inside. By doing so, a substantial decrease in the rate of traffic can be expected.
On the other hand, in my perspective, encouraging people to use public transportation is much more feasible. To take for example, by using buses and trams available throughout the cities, most of the cars containing only one passenger will be eradicated, resulting in less pollution; furthermore, this can reduce the cost of living by not having to pay for fuel dramatically. Despite the expenses that increasing the number of vehicles might bring upon, this approach is more economical than building more roadways.
To sum up, in my point of view, given the more effectiveness in terms of carbon emission and expenses management, extended usage of public transportation can be much more beneficial compared to the addition of roads and highways.
