Many individuals believe that authorities should spend more money on public transportation to minimize traffic problems. While others argue to develop the existing roads and highways. Although, both opinions have their own merits and demerits, I favor former one. Both viewpoints along with my opinion are discussed in following paragraphs.
To begin with, there are ample of advantages to constructing and improving roads and highways. Firstly, usage of public transport vehicles such as buses and trains can reduce traffic issues as few private vehicles will be used. This can act as a source of income to the country. To exemplify, many countries, like Japan supports public transport and give more importance to it. As a result, there is less traffic in metropolitan cities of Japan as compared to other countries. Secondly, improving public transportation like under ground metros can be a More effective strategy to control traffic congestion. For instance, countries like Canada and The United States are focusing more on underground pathways.
On the other hand, improving roads and highways also offers some advantages. First and foremost, people who rely on their own vehicle such as cars and bikes can reach their destination easily and quickly if the roadways are of better quality. The ruling party, should construct more highways that connect other cities so that traffic can be distributed. For example, United Kingdom has much better and organised road transportation by separating different roads for trams. Moreover, having smaller roads can cause many problems such as accidents which results into traffic jams. Hence, by increasing roads size can reduce the chances of accidents.
To conclude, with identical merits in both solutions, it should be governments choice to choose appropriate solution which is good for the civilians. I believe, making people aware about public transport is more preferrable as it serves many advantages .
