People have differing views with regard to the question of how to improve the environment. Many argue that strict legislation on this issue should be introduced and obeyed, whereas others think that other ways such as educating individuals would be more effective. In my view, both laws and education can be used together to promote a better environment.
On the one hand, strict laws can certainly help to prevent people from resorting to illegal environmental crimes as they will have to impose heavy fines if they carry them out. There are various punishments, such as monetary fines, business license suspension or even prison sentences. The aim of the laws is to issue a warning to people about their bad behaviors. Therefore, raising their awareness of the importance of the environment as well as some negative consequences can affect our lives.
On the other hand, some believe that the natural ecosystem can be improved in educational ways that do not punish individuals. First, it is vitally important to educate people properly about our connection to the environment. For example, governments can cite some evidence related to the affection of nature in our lives such as the El nino phenomenon which has generated various detrimental climate conditions and posed a threat to human’s well-being. Secondly, governments can also encourage people to protect the environment through small actions or green campaigns. A small thing probably makes a difference and if everyone takes part in it, it would absolutely be a huge change to the environment.
In conclusion, having looked at both opinions, I believe that both laws and education have their own merits. While strict legislation can help to prevent bad activities, I feel that educational methods should also be introduced.
