Education is the fundamental right of all regardless of their background or circumstances. There is a perspective that it is the responsibility of government to provide free access to education for everyone. There is an other school of thought which suggests that it is people who should take care of their education expenses. I believe that High School education should be free of cost for everyone for the benefit of society.
Progress of a society is directly proportional to its literacy rate. And it is the responsibility of the Government to make sure that all individuals have access to education. Because economic conditions of people may vary based on their income , it is crucial to provide education free of cost. Especially for the kids, education lays the foundation of their character. It teaches them moral values and how to behave in social settings, which consequently improves the overall well-being of a society and promotes diversity. The more the people are educated higher will be the development rate of a civilization.
On the other hand, Providing free education could cost a lot of money. In order to manage Colleges and Schools Government would have to find a way to collect more money, which may result in increased taxes and inflation. So making education cost free could result in other issues at societal level. Also, most cities have different educational institutions with varying amounts of charging fee. It makes it convenient for people to choose the right institution depending on their income.
To conclude, Education should be free for everyone till they complete High School. And if someone has aptitude for learning but their economic conditions does not allow them to pursue further studies, Government should introduce programs and Scholarships in their favor as they can be an asset to the society.
