In today’s world, when it comes to the topic of privacy, there will always be an argument as it is a hotly-debated topic to be discussed. In light of protecting freedom and privacy, there are those who insist that placing CCTV cameras in public would be an infringement on general freedom. However, some people tend to disagree this point of view and believe that it is a new way to raise safety in public areas, both points of view will be discussed together with the author’s opinion.
For people who assert that the application of security cameras will lessen their freedom and do harm to their right of privacy, I believe that they maintain some valid points that worth considerating. First of all, their private information like their face, behaviors or even their fashion style can be taken through cameras. Together with the growing accessibility of the internet, infiltration on personal information or the government’s archive can take places, which means that hackers can make use of general private information and confidential documents about citizen to support illegal activities. For example, many statistics have shown that there has been a growth in the number of cybercrime since CCTV cameras were taken to use as they can lead to illegal use of credit accounts.
Coming to the advocates of the project, on the other hand, their narrative points hold the majority as it is well-supported and widely known. To begin with, although the application of CCTV recorders has just been carried out in such a short time, it showed successes. To clarify, since the application of it, criminal rate in public areas has been on a downshot as it decreased remarkably because illegal activities can be observed and stopped on time. Furthermore, freedom can also be strengthened as the worry for crimes is lessened and publci safety is fostered.
In conclusion, I wholeheartedly agree with the application of security cameras and I suppose that those who worried about it are just making such a storm in a teacup as the drawbacks can be removed through developments on cyber security while those miracle benefits are on the rise.
