Nowadays the crime rate all around the world is increasing drastically. The surging crime rates has made everyone to think and discuss what could be the major factors contributing to this change. Some argue that this is due to vague punshiments imposed by officials without taking into account the degree of the crime. While other deny this ideology stating that a person is likely to change his behaviour by imposing a punishment. My personal opinion would be that to have more tight rules according to the varying extend of crime an individual commits.
The lack of strict punishment based on the crime scenario had made a bad impression among many. Most often people will think that commiting a crime will only get them a maximum punishment upto a certain extend. Moreover this will encourage these people to involve in additional crime. This can also lead to setting up an example for the upcoming generations. Additionally, the different news that they hear often about the crimes committed and the punishment given will make them aware of this reality. Consequtively, they will develop sense of commiting crime as they have no fear on the judicial law systems. One such example, I can point out is from my native place kerala. In Kerala crime rate have surged in the year 2025 to ground breaking levels. The most interesting observation was the age of those involved. Shockingly most of them were below the age of 22. Aforementioned example can be vital in understanding how much influence is created for the nurturing generation.
On the other hand , it can also be noted that some individuals commit crime out of desperation and will often bound to change when given a punishment. They will feel guilty about what they have done and will change themselves. However often we will get to see that this is not the case. The rules should be made strict and it should have a varied level of punishments for the crimes. We cannot justify that a rapist and a robber should be given the same level of punishment as it clearly not justified .
In conclusion my opinion would be to focus on punishment based on the degree of crime. The sense of fear should come to the mind of each individual when they are about to commit a crime.
