The ubiquitous rise of sporting events has ignited a debate. One school of thought opines that organizing an international sporting event is beneficial for the country’s economic growth. Meanwhile, proponents argue that it contributes to increasing pollution and hinders environmental balance. I firmly believe that, its advantages far outweigh the disadvantages, and this essay will delve deeper into it and explain the reason behind this perspective.
Undeniably, curating an international sporting event offers a wealth of advantages for multifaceted reasons. To begin with, it plays a pivotal role in bolstering country’s economy, as the influx of people coming from across continents to support their nations serves as a means of business opportunities for local vendors and artisans. Moreover, numerous people coming from different states exchange their cultural values, fostering empathy and belonging among each other. Additionally, sporting events can be utilise as a significant tool to promote country’s tourism. For instance, a recent article published in The Hindustan Times delineates how the 2023 International Cricket World Cup played a significant role in increasing tourism in India. A report exhibited that, after the World Cup tourism has potentially increased by 35 percent in India. This underscores the significance of international sporting events.
Conversely, a myriad of people believe that organising an event is not a judicious use of money. They emphasizes that, it is often seen that the stadiums erected by the government for sporting events often remains empty after the events are over, subsequently they contend the government should do prudent use of taxpayers’ money in improving essential sectors such as the healthcare system and education system. Moreover, an abundance of people coming from various states can disrupt the balance of society, which leads to more traffic and raise pollution issues.
I personally believe that, an international sporting event offers an abundance of benefits from contributing to the country’s economy to promoting tourism across continents. Undoubtedly, limitations still exist, but adopting calculated approach, which includes stringent rules and regulations to follow sustainable practices for tourism, that helps in mitigating the pollution, consequently, converting stadium into leisure activity centers for local citizens after tournaments are over, provide opportunities to local talents to harness the benefits of government programmes. By adopting this inclusive strategy, individuals can embrace the benefits of an international events.
