It is undeniable that there has been a rise in the crime numbers. People have different views on reducing the crime rates. In order to minimize the crime rates, some people state that longer prison is the effective way, however, other argue that there are other alternatives such as giving warning and educating them. In this essay, I will discuss both advantages and disadvantages.
To begin with, there are upsides and downsides to longer prison terms. For those who are in favor of prisoning for longer believe that the main benefits are that their bad behavior will not spread among the people because they will be kept in the jail and not socialize with others. Thus, there are less criminal activities going on around the area. However, the drawbacks should not be ignored. If the person are giving long-term prisoning, it would cut the country’s money as they need to be provided with food and other facilities. There are some advantage as well as disadvantage to long-term prisoning.
There are other approaches to reducing the crime rates. Instead of keeping the offenders in prison for long, they should be given serious warnings and educated. The serious warning will prevent them from committing the crime because they would be frightened of receiving warnings again. Moreover, if the criminal laws are introduced to people, they will be more knowledgeable and respect the law. Thus, it is likely that they are not thinking about carrying out the crime and follow the rules.
In conclusion, although long-term prisoning will deter spreading of bad behaviors, it could cut the country’s income. Other ways are serious warning and educating them which have the benefit impact on the society as more people are aware of the law.
