There is a debate about the quality of life in vertical cities with skyscrapers and in horizontal cities with fewer tall buildings. Although vertical cities are convenient to complete daily tasks quickly, I believe that horizontal cities are more beneficial for overall well-being.
Vertical city is a perfect environment for work and self development. This is owing to the fact that vertical city is full of tall buildings, which can contain several important facilities for people such as office, accomodation, restaurants, and health care salons. Hence, people can complete multiple tasks while staying in the same building, without travelling huge distances. For example, a famous life-content creator Lusie Lu shared how she spend her day in integrated skyscraper on social medias. She started her working hours early in the morning and throughout the day she have done online meetings, buying essential goods, and insight-sharing session with her friend. This encouraged her to come back home only to relax without worrying about other activities.
Despite such attractive opportunities that vertical cities offer, I firmly believe that horizontal cities are more advantageous to have a healthy and productive lifestyle. This is on the grounds that compared to the lifestyle in vertical cities, where people density is high and scarcity of walkable areas is a common thing, horizontal cities enhance the life of people by encouraging more green and open space for leisure activities. For instance, children can have fun playing in the garden, neighbours can spend time with each other, and all ages of people can bolster their physical health by doing sport activities in the surrounding area. In terms of career, people can work remotely or use cheap transport systems offered by government. As a result, suburbanisation, a main purpose of horizontal cities, can offer a happy and productive lifestyle in all aspects of life.
To summarize all, even though vertical cities are efficient for daily working life, I believe that horizontal areas are more beneficial as they faciliate working life and encourage more open space for leisure time.
