People often think that hosting an international sports tournament will benefit that country in many ways. However, that is not always the case since most countries have to consider different factors and make the most useful decision based on that.
There are many arguments in favour of the idea that it is good for a government to organize such an important event. Firstly, hosting an international sports competition could be a perfect opportunity for promoting that country’s traditional cultures. Secondly, countries can make profits from hosting that event. For example, international athletes and fans will come and spend money on food and accommodation throughout the whole event. This will stimulate the development of other industries, such as tourism, transportation and food services.
However, there are certain disadvantages of being responsible for organizing such a large event. In fact, an international sports competition will require the best facilities, which involves an enormous amount of fund and time. This is simply not possible for poor countries. Even if they somehow managed to host that tournament, the risk of capital loss is extremely high, especially when the event is not successful. Moreover, small countries do not have large surface area to welcome the huge number of international tourists in such a tournament.
In my view, hosting an international sports event could benefit host countries as well as creating severe problems for them. However, the disadvantages outweigh the benefits, so it is much better not to take responsibility to organize an international sports competition.
