Governments do not have unlimited source of money to develop sport in their country. They have to make decision on which event can bring economic returns to the country.
There are many arguments between two different ideas if becoming the organizer of a major sports competition can create flaws or benefits to the land. Firstly, being the host of a major sports competition can bring some seriously problems to that country. One of the most popular problems is how much money the event will cause that country. The organizer country may need a lot of resources to provide things like massive stadium and if the event not famous enough they might have to chance to lose all of their money. Next disadvantage is the crowd management, which is usually happen in many big events. If they do not have good enough security, the competition will cause chaos to the country. Lastly, the country with small amount of space hosts a massive competition may give some issues about traffic and living quality.
However, being the host can also give advantages for that country. People in the host country will be impressed with sports which can solve health problems in the country. Most importantly, the country will gain a lot of economic returns from transportation, accommodation,… In addition, people that participate in the event will spend money on transport, hotel and even restaurant for food. Finally, the major competition will give the country better facilities for sport because of the popular after the event impress many people.
I personally believe that being the organizer of a big sport competition is much better for some countries with good management and having enough space and cash can provide a lot of boons to that country.
