It is believed that stories told by parents show more necessity while others said that children can do the reading on their own through books, TV and movies. Although other sources can offer some benefits, I am convinced that parental involvement is essential.
With the development of technology, it has become more simple for parents to support their children’s learning and interest . To begin with, books or media platforms often deliver information through engaging forms, for example illustrated artbooks or animated films, with sound and colourful art. These effects provide sensory stimulation and immersive experience, making it easier to absorb and analyze the information. Furthermore, the widespread use of social platforms and the availability of books have made children’s content more accessible anytime or anywhere, in any topics. Thus, children can be independent in their personal interest without relying entirely on their parents. However, there still remain certain risks, as they may not have the awareness to distinguish information at a young age, especially when frequently searched content go viral regardless of the audience. More importantly, the excessive use of effects in children’s digital products might harm their fragile psyche, resulting in mental illness such as autistic or ADHD.
In contrast, parental storytelling can contribute to children’s development in the early years. Considering reading stories can be a way of closeness and mental support is indispensable. When the affections can be expressed through communication and emotional interaction, the love and trust will be built. As a result, children can feel a sense of security and deeper connections with their parents. Besides, being able to contact in face to face, thoughts and ideas can be responded to in real-time with alternative subjects. Therefore, enhancing language and communicating skills as the young are likely to imitate adults such as voice or pronunciation, also encouraging the confidence and assertiveness within the child, strengthen the bond in parent-child relationship. At the same time, parents play a role as a filtration of content, this means that information will be verified with the adults experiences, making sure the sources exposed to children are safe, although this may not be completely effective, it can still be beneficial to some extent.
In conclusion, even though the other forms of entertainment and education for children offer convenience and diversity, parent figures are irreplaceable throughout childhood.
