Some people believe that parents should tell or read stories to their children, while others opine that children should find information in other sources such as TV shows, books and movies. Finding information in books and in front of screen can develop self-reliance and curiosity, however, listening stories by parents can foster imagination. Because, parents allow children to visualize, settings, events and characters.
To begin with, when children watch TV shows to get resources, read books for gaining knowledge, or searching answers for their questions on websites such as Google and Khan Academy, they are encouraging independence. As they doing this, they may develop personal preferences for specific genres or formats, which may be arouse interest in literature and love of reading. For example, child can find and read or watch intellectual shows or magazines, and after a little while, they may encourage himself to spend their meaningful time beneficially.
Nevertheless, spend time with children by telling stories may also be useful for parents, because they can build emotional bonds. Due to reading books or magazines for their progeny, they can create opportunities for emotional connection with their offspring. Spending time with their children helps build trust and strengthens the bond between parents and children. In the future, these moments can become treasured memories for children. It also encourages creativity, because parents empower children to envision various scenarios, situations, and personas.
In conclusion, I think listening stories by parents is more useful for both generations and it has more benefit sides, than reading independent study. It more preferable if parent encourage children to read by themselves by controlling and helping them.
