It is often a big question on how should we show appreciation towards our nearest and dearest, while ones say that there are nothing better then material gratitude, that being valuable gifts and money, others counter it by saying that it’s affection and time together that matters the most. As for me, both points of view are like two sides of the same coin.
As for the first point of view, gifts and presents are something that one can see and touch directly, meaning that some people might think that it’s just more practical to show their attention this way. And it won’t be odd. Some people, especially older generation, whom are our grandparents, can be in need of material support from their youngsters, by which they understand that they are appreciated. Material validation is indeed practical, but if we won’t give anything than that, it can just be took for granted.
We can’t forget about people’s mental health, our relationships status, which is usually supported by all those warm moments that we share. Spending time together helps us understand our loved ones better, giving assurance that we will never live their side. Relatives often feel abandoned if their family isn’t there for them, meaning that love and affection are not something that we can throw away. It should be clear, that both things are equal, but for some people it might just be about personal preference, there sure are lots of pragmatic people around.
All in all, we should always respect our family’s and friend’s wishes, and basing our affection on this fact. Everyone decides for themselves whether they want material appreciation or moral, but as for me both are equally good, and can’t really be neglected. There are different moments for each way of showing our affection.
