There is a belief among some people that it is more important to teach our children the literature of their own country then other countries. I agree with this statement, but I also believe that the literature of other countries should complement it.
To begin with, children are the future of any country. Governmnets should develop educational programs in a way which can make kids loving their motherland. National literature is an important part of such curriculum as it provides examples of great artists who grew up and worked at the same country as children who read that books sharing the same context between writer and reader. For instance, at school I learned about a Ukrainian writer Mykhailo Kotsyubynskiy who was from my city called Vinnytsia. I felt the connection between me and that great man. This connection made a contribution to my love of my motherland Ukraine.
Despite its importance, national litetrature should be supported by world literature. The arts from other countries provide different views and ideas for the same situations developing open-mindedness in our children. Reading international books, kids discover new ideas and knowledges that can inspire them and help to success in future. At school, world literature was one of my favourite subjects because I felt that each book is unique. This made me well-rounded and helped to succeed in my field.
I agree that it is more important to teach childrend the literature of their own country as it connects them with their motherland, however it should be supported by lessons of world leterature to develop open-mindedness.
