Nowadays, children spend a lot of time watching television and playing computer games. Some people think these activities are entertaining, while others believe reading storybooks is a better choice. I strongly agree that reading books is more useful because it improves children’s knowledge, language skills, and imagination.
First of all, reading storybooks helps children learn new words and improve their reading and writing skills. They can understand different ideas, cultures, and values through interesting stories. Books also increase imagination because children create pictures in their minds while reading. This habit develops creativity and helps them perform better in school.
Moreover, reading is a healthy and peaceful activity. It improves concentration and encourages children to think deeply about characters and events. Parents can also read with their children, which strengthens family relationships and creates enjoyable learning experiences. In contrast, spending too much time on television or computer games may reduce physical activity and affect children’s studies.
However, television and computer games also have some benefits. Educational programs can teach science, history, and other useful subjects in an interesting way. Some computer games improve problem-solving skills and quick thinking. Even so, children should use these forms of entertainment for a limited time because too much screen time may harm their eyesight and reduce social interaction.
In conclusion, I strongly agree that reading storybooks is better than watching television or playing computer games for children. Although modern technology has some educational value, books provide greater benefits for language development, imagination, and overall personal growth. Therefore, parents should encourage children to develop the habit of reading from an early age.
