There is a perspective that children should not be taught art subjects in school because they are not deemed necessary for their future careers. I completely disagree with this viewpoint and will provide several reasons why creative activities are crucial for children’s development.
Firstly, one of the main reasons we need art subjects in schools is that they foster imagination and unconventional thinking. This happens because, when we engage in creative activities, there are no strict guidelines to follow, which allows our brains to form new neural connections and learn to think outside the box. This skill is important not only in the arts but also in addressing life’s challenges effectively. For instance, scientists have studied the Creative Problem Solving (CPS) model and found that it significantly enhances students’ abilities to generate ideas and discover original solutions. After undergoing training, students were able to view problems from different perspectives and develop alternative strategies for resolving them.
Another important point is that studying art and music helps children understand cultural aspects of living, as well as the history and traditions of different nationalities. As a result, children grow up to be well-rounded individuals. For example, even diplomats are required to study art so that they can maintain dialogue with others. If people learn this from childhood, it will provide a solid foundation for their future communication skills.
In conclusion, despite the belief held by some that art subjects are useless, I believe that developing students’ artistic skills is highly beneficial for our generation as it expands our ability to understand the world.
