Homeschooling and teaching a child in school can both have different outcomes in a child’s development. While both have their advantages, in my opinion, the benefits of a child being taught at school outweighs than those who are taught at home, due to the increased support available from fellow peers and teachers and being surrounded by a variety of like-minded individuals.
Teaching a child at home can be helpful, especially if a youngster is struggling in an academic environment. For instance, if a child refuses to comply with school rules and prefers to be on their own, it could be beneficial to teach them at home, in the comfort of their own space. Here, a flexible curriculum can be provided which can be customised to their needs. In this way, teaching wouldn’t be a chore for them, but a more approachable way of learning.
However, for the majority, it may be more beneficial to place youngsters in a school environment. Not only will support be provided by teachers, but learning with others can a different experience than acquiring knowledge by yourself. For example, when ideas may be different to one another, it is likely that it will broaden the child’s understanding and further enhance their development. This is crucial for developing their character as it enforces respect and understanding between them, which majorly aides in building relationships in the future and build tolerance towards one another.
In conclusion, it depends on each individual child, their circumstances and approach to studying and how it can benefit them. However, I believe that the majority of youngsters can benefit from an environment when surrounded by individuals from diverse backgrounds which can be crucial for shaping a young one’s mind, while also receiving support from their tutors.
