There is a general belief that preventing road accidents is by increasing the minimum legal age for driving cars or motorcycles. Although this seems like an easier policy to implement, the causes of traffic accidents are more complex than that. Hence, I disagree with this statement for two reasons.
To begin with, one of the main causes of traffic accidents is careless driving, which can come from every age. Nowadays, vehicles are accessible to people in every circumstance, which can lead to drunk driving. For example, adults who are driving while under the influence of alcohol can cause a serious accident on the road. As a result, another driver, pedestrian, or even a stationary object like a house or store has the potential to be a victim in this hazardous situation.
Furthermore, other policies that need to be implemented to ensure road safety are improvements to the system itself, such as road clearance and stricter rules from the city. In many cities or rural areas, there are several roads that do not meet the eligibility criteria for a safe road. In addition, traffic rules can be easily broken by citizens, especially prominent figures from affluent families. For example, many cases occur today when a driver bribes a police officer to get away with breaking the law.
In conclusion, careless driving and traffic rules and safety are the most crucial factors to ensure road safety. Laws to prevent people with alcoholic habits from having access to cars or motorcycles need to be implemented effectively, as well as other traffic laws. Being a law-abiding citizen is crucial not only for our own sake but for others as well.
