Band 6+: Some people believe that universities should focus mainly on providing academic knowledge, while others argue that universities should also prepare students for the workplace.

Note: Both the topic and the essay were created by one of our users.

There is a topic about what universities should focus on. Some people think that improving academic knowledge is what universities should focus on, while others believe that practical skills for their job are more necessary. In my perspective, I agree with the latter idea, believing that you can get a high-salary job even if you don’t have any experience.

Proponents of the idea that universities should focus only on academic knowledge believe that all students in those universities will study very hard and they will reach their goals in the future. Moreover, maybe they think that nowadays, after finishing university, students can easily get or enter the best jobs only with their diplomas. In addition to this, nowadays entering one of the best jobs has many more requirements than before. So they need to get experience too for getting these jobs.

These arguments notwithstanding, I maintain that practical skills are the things universities should focus on, and skills are more beneficial for our self-improvement, aligning with those who advocate this perspective. They believe that they can easily enter a job when they demonstrate what they can do or show their skills. Moreover, they can learn not only one skill; they may be interested in several skills, and if they fail in one, they can find their way with another skill. As a result, skills are much better, and I agree with these ideas.

In conclusion, with academic knowledge alone you don’t have many opportunities, and there is also a small percentage chance that you can enter a job only with a university certificate, but with skills you will never be hungry – you can always find your way.
