Band 6+: Some people believe that using public transportation is the best way to reduce traffic congestion and pollution in cities. Others argue that building more roads is the solution. Discuss both views and give your own opinion.

Traffic jam is the most serious problem which is happening all over the world and needed to address as soon as possible. Some individuals recommend using public transport is a viable solution, while others think that roads have to be expanded. In my opinion, The expansion of roads is better in the long run, but hard to achieve due to financial problems compared to the use of public transportation.

On the one hand, many people suggest building more roads is a possible measure based on three main reasons. First of all, The significant rise of vehicles in different areas of the world. For example, there are lots of car manufacturers which are continuously producing their products, hence roads cannot have enough space for those vehicles. Second, the number of accidents will be reduced. When there are more roads, people will have more space to go and they can go slower without worrying someone will enter their lanes. Finally, goods will be delivered faster. When roads are built in many regions, it is easier for people who transport goods because of a variety of choices in routes.

On the other hand, others believe using public transportation is a workable solution for three primary reasons. First, public transport is inexpensive and easy to get. For example, people can use public transport in any places from wide avenues to narrow alleys with the ticket price is only equal to a loaf of bread. Furthermore, environment pollution will be drammatically improved. When people agree to use public transport instead of their private vehicles, a large amount of engine fume disappears, thus air pollution is less severe than before. Last but not least, natural resources will be saved for future generation. If people use public transportation frequently, it means less private vehicles will be applied in daily travel, as a consequence, natural materials which are supposed to be used in cars’ production will be reduced significantly.

In conclusion, building more roads are great based on reasons mentioned above. However, it is not as good as using public transport because road expansion requires a substantial amount of money which is not practical compared to public transportation usage. I think that using public transport is always a right choice because it can solve many issues right away.
